We think that on the way to Oshu in Jo-an 4 (1174), Minamoto Yoshitsune rested at this rock, loved the scenery, and named it. The great teacher Tokuichi’s disciple, a mountain ascetic and holy man, erected a building at this rock, and prayed for the villagers’ health and a bountiful harvest.
Nearby there is a point here where the Kumato River is 30 meters wide and drops five meters at “Fudo Falls” and there are leisure facilities for camping and barbecuing at “Hijiri-ga-iwa Furusato-no-mori”.
