About two kilometers southeast of Shirakawa City, this shrine sits in Kashima, between the Abukuma River and the Tohoku Railway.
It was erected in Hoki Era (around 770), by the Emperor Kojin. In Konin 2 (811), when Sakanoue No Tamuramaro went to the Northeast, in Mutsu area, he saw Kashima Daimyojin, and it became the tutelary deity of Shirakawa Township for a thousand years.
