During the battle of Shirakawaguchi, the Shinsengumi with its commanding officer, Saito Hajime, was encamped here. Furthermore, in Meiji 14, the Meiji Emperor rested here on a trip to the Northeast, and stayed here on his return trip.
Today there are still the old tatami room and a tokonoma with a set of staggered shelves, and a tatami parlor called the throne room. In addition, in the courtyard, the military’s Togo Heihachiro wrote, “The Meiji Emperor slept here”, and there is garden lantern with the chrysanthemum crest in it.
For the private rooms, usually access is denied. (The exterior can be observed.)
