A native of Echigo, when she was a child Shige was sold at Shirakawa Giro Sakataya, and her character was gentle, making her loved by everyone. However, West Army officer Sera Shuzo had a thing for her, and after the war, the Aizu Clan detested Shige and is said to have killed her.
Sera ignored the pleas of the clans of Aizu, Sendai, and Yonezawa and wrote a secret message to the officer, Oyama Tsunayoshi, that "Lveryone in Oshu area is my enemy, and I will kill you in battle" but someone discovered this information, and on April 20 of the leap year he was captured at Fukushima Castle, and beheaded by the Sendai Clan on the banks of the Abukuma River.
This was one of the starting points of the Boshin War.
