A luminary of the Edo Period, Matsudaira Sadanobu praised the beauty of this spot, and gave it his pen name, Rakuo, so it is called Rakuo Ravine. The rugged mountainous aspect is well worth seeing, and in springtime the ravine in is full glory as all the Yashio azaleas bloom at the same time.
