Residents of Takada (Echigo) made candy from glutinous rice for generations to give to the Takada group of the Matsudaira clan. Matsudaira Sadanobu's residence was Komine Castle which is famous today, along with this traditional candy of Shirakawa. Shogetsudo's founder, Suzuki Kennosuke, learned candymaking at a shop (in Dojo Town), and later did much research on his own, resulting in the shop he has today.
Inside we sell Western and Japanese sweets, wedding cakes and birthday cakes, red rice, and fresh rice cakes, that you can reserve for celebrations.
We kindly offer a cafe space, for you to use for a rest when you are sightseeing in Shirakawa.
