In the Shirakawa Kamanoko area, in the first year of Kanpo (1741), the Shirakawa Clan Lord altered the territory worth about 40,000 tons of rice that had belonged to Echigo Takada clan for 130 years.
The encampment at first was located Asakawa Town next to the east area but was moved to Kamanoko and controlled that area.
However, in Meiji 1(1868) during the Boshin War, troops from the West Army attacked burned it down on June 25.
Kamanoko Camp's Ruins lie behind the Ariga Brewery whose warehouse has been in operation for 300 years.
