Hitachi's powerful family built Motoku Temple as its first temple.
During the Keicho Period (1596-1614), after Shirakawa Castle's chamberlain Machino Nagatono moved this temple to Hachiman Koji either because the lord at the time ordered it or there was a fire, it was moved to Nibancho and Kanaya Town area again and again.
It is currently on land where it has been situated since the mid-18th century.
