The West Army was defeated during the evening of June 1, and a farmer, Otake Shigeru Saburo, was mistaken for an East Army spy and murdered as he led his horses to pasture.
As a form of pacifying atonement, the West Army erected this tomb giving him military honors befitting an officer.
