The main structure of Kawabe Hachiman Shrine has been designated an Important Prefectural Cultural Property.
According to the history books, in Eisho 6 (1051), Minamoto No Yoriyoshi's master, Lord of the Mutsu district, ordered him to attack Abe's supporters.
In the first year of Tengi (1053), Hachimangu Shrine was erected in this area to inspire morale in the troops.
After that it went up in flames several times according to records of the wars, but was rebuilt every time.
