Ryugazuka Kofun, a round-ended tumulus, was made about 1400 years ago and has been designated a Prefectural Historic Site.
Nowadays, the main part runs 36 meters east to west, the front being 17 meters, the rounded rear 14 meters in diameter and rising 4.5 meters, making it the largest tumulus in the area.
Part of this ancient tomb was chopped up a bit to make a field, which changed the shape somewhat, and in early Meiji Era a ditch was constructed (on four sides) as part of modification for agricultural infrastructure.
As a result of closer inspection, we discovered this to be the rounded style middle of 6th century.
Buried in this burial mound from the Nara Period is, we think, fifth generation Tateiwa Nushinomikoto, who was regional administrator of this area.
Now there is a stone shrine of the god Awajima above the front portion.
