Daito Temple can be traced back to the Konin years (810-824).

At first it was near Kinsho Temple. Later, during the time of Shirakawa governor-cum-monk, this area resembled Kyoto, learned everything Kyoto, and the name "Shirakawa" was appropriate and common. The religious leader built Daito Temple as an imperial prayer.

At "Daito" people prayed for an unbroken imperial line of religious leaders.
After that, the temple fell into disuse, but owner of old castle, Komine (Yuuki) Chikatomo, established Daito Temple for the Yuuki family in the current Enmyo Temple area. At that time Tofuku Temple's grounds were expanded here and there. After that, it went into decline again and in Keicho 4 (1600) joined with the believers of Myoshin Temple.

During Kanei (1624-44), Niwa Nagashige chose the site of Gobyo, but it was moved to its current position at Umamachi Koike.
